The governor of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratyev met with a group of russian investors in Moscow

The establishment of waste treatment facilities in Kuban was discussed during the meeting.

According to the press service of the Administration (Governor) of the Krasnodar Region, to resolve the problem of the waste destruction in the region, a scheme of the inter-municipal location of solid domestic waste facilities was developed. It is provided to construct 11 inter-municipal zonal centers for the processing and disposal of solid domestic waste in several district of the region. Each complex will cover up to five Municipal Formations where the total volume of waste will amount to 100 thousand tons per year or more.

According to Veniamin Kondratyev, investors’ participation in such projects is very profitable today. However, the creation of new waste treatment facilities should not result in a tariff increase for the Kuban residents, and the enterprises must comply with environmental standards.

Approximately 2.5 million tons of solid domestic waste are produced in the Krasnodar region every year. The main part of waste is brought to disposal sites. According to experts, most of these sites got old and don’t comply with environmental regulations and health standards and are operated in violation of waste disposal technologies. In addition, there are insufficient number of waste sorting and processing facilities in the region. Construction of complexes for the waste destruction will allow the use of lands for agricultural purposes but not for the waste storage.
